Excited to join the ISP Board

I’m super excited to join the Board of Trustees for the International School of Portland.
Founded in 1990, the International School of Portland (ISP) is committed to inspiring children to become global citizens through an inquiry-based learning environment of total immersion in multiple languages and cultures (with nearly 500 students from age 3 to 5th grade.) ISP is:
One of only two schools in the United States – and perhaps the world – offering full immersion in three separate language tracks under one roof.
The only school in the U.S. to provide full immersion in Mandarin, Japanese, and Spanish.
Home to the longest-running Chinese immersion program in the Pacific Northwest.
Only program in the USA to offer Japanese immersion combined with IB PYP.
Pacific Northwest's first International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) school, which promotes strategic thinking skills and hands-on engagement, rather than memorization and passive learning.
So why did I join the Board?
My wife and I first fell in love with ISP when we toured campus in January 2022 as we were looking for schools for our son to start Kindergarten (knowing we had 18 months to explore our options). We immediately fell in love with the culture, philosophy and teaching approach at ISP and didn’t wait until Kindergarten. On that tour (even with everyone - teachers, kids and staff - wearing masks) we could see the unique relationship students were building with their teachers and the language/culture. We knew at that moment it was a special place that aligned with our values.
This past year as a parent of a student I’ve gotten to know the faculty, staff, leadership team and community even more - experiencing first hand their commitment to helping our children become global citizens.
It is an exciting time to be a part of ISP and leverage my owned learned experiences to help the school grow.
Let’s raise the owl flag together. #BetterTogether
