#LoveHasNoLabels + #WeAreAmerica
Graeme Byrd
As the Canada Day / US Independence Day weekend passes, I think about how living in Vancouver, BC has provided me a new prospective on the United States - especially during an election year.
On this patriotic weekend, I was very moved by the Ad Council's campaign "Love Has No Labels" - about how love is beyond age, disability, sex, or any other labels. "To love America is to love all Americans." We need to love more than just Americans, living in Canada reminds me how much people just need to love people.
It is beyond the United States, Canada or any nation, as President Obama stated this weekend to honor the life of Elie Wiesel:
"In the face of evil, we must summon our capacity for good. In the face of hate, we must love. In the face of cruelty, we must live with empathy and compassion. We must never be bystanders to injustice or indifferent to suffering. Just imagine the peace and justice that would be possible in our world if we all lived a little more like Elie Wiesel."
It is time to stand together, not just because #WeAreAmerica, but because #WeAreHumans.
